Jack has been surprising us with how well he is adjusting to being a big brother. Really, mostly he just ignores her, but he does give her about 20 kisses a day and a few high fives here and there. However, when I tell him we are going somewhere, he immediately gets concerned and keeps asking, "Baby? Baby?", like I am going to forget her. I have to say over and over, "Yes, we are taking Lucy with us.", "Please, just let me finish getting you ready and then I will get her.","Just let me get your shoes on and then I will get her.", "Yes, in a minute, just let me get you shoes on.", "YES, I PROMISE I WILL GET HER!" "FOR HEAVENS SAKE, HAVE I EVER FORGOTTEN HER?". Seriously, I have to say this over and over and over again until we are all out the door. I know it is sweet that he is watching out for her, but, man, it gets annoying.
Last night, we had a couple of showings at the house (no, the house has not sold yet, not even an offer yet) so we had to be out of the house for an hour. I thought it might be fun to let Jack have me all to himself and a neighbor had been asking to watch Lucy, so I decided that I would leave Lucy for the first time. My neighbor was overjoyed to be asked and just glowed when we arrived at the door. After a few minutes of saying good-bye to Lucy, I told Jack we were leaving and going to dinner. As we made our way to the door, Jack started sobbing, "BABY! BABY! BABY!". He cried almost the whole way to the restaurant even though I kept explaining that we were going to go eat and then go back and pick her up. During dinner, he would be fine for a few minutes and then remember and he would go back into "BABY! BABY!". Poor little guy! He was more than ready when we returned an hour later to pick up Lucy. After a few minutes of chatting with the neighbor, I told Jack to say good-bye. He turned and said good-bye to me! He wanted to stay with the neighbor and I ended up having to carry him out!
I am glad that Jack watches out for his little sister, I just wish he would trust me more!
